Muhammadali Abduqunduzov

Actor
Muhammadali Abduqunduzov
Date of birth:
14.06.1952

Muhammadali Abduqunduzov, one of the prominent representatives of Uzbek national theater art, was born on July 14, 1952, in the village of Yaypan in the Uzbekistan district of the Fergana region. His passion for the acting profession led him to the Tashkent State Institute of Arts. After successfully graduating from the institute, the artist, along with a group of dedicated young people, received an assignment to the Surkhandarya Regional Musical Drama Theater named after Mannon Uygur.

The actor worked honestly and wholeheartedly on the stage of this theater for twelve years, researching, performing roles, and staging plays. During these years, the artist created a gallery of unique, artistically mature characters in the finest examples of world and Uzbek dramaturgy. The characters created by Muhammadali fascinate the audience with their strong temperament, vitality, and sincerity. His performances in heroic roles such as Ferdinand ("Intrigue and Love", Schiller), Davronbek ("Love for the Homeland", Zinnat Fatkhullin and Uygur), Paratov ("Without a Dowry", Ostrovsky), Shokir ("I Stepped on a Thorn Without Seeing", Izzat Sultan), Alibek ("My Poplar in a Red Scarf", Chingiz Aitmatov), Andrey ("One-on-One with Everyone", Alexander Gelman), and Musa Jalil ("Unknown Day", Dias Valeev) were recognized as a great contribution by the actor to the development of the Uzbek theater.

In particular, the actor interpreted the character of Ikromjon in the drama "The Horizon" by the famous writer Said Ahmad with great skill and talent. This play remained the pride of the theater's repertoire for over ten years. The author of the work, acknowledging the artist's great skill, wrote the following words: "Muhammadali! You brought the Ikromjon on paper to life and gave him soul; such a feat is only possible for a master artist. Thank you." The role of Ikromjon won the Grand Prize in the "Best Male Role of the Year" nomination in Uzbekistan in 1975.

Muhammadali Abduqunduzov was invited to work at the Uzbek National Academic Drama Theater in 1986. The first character the actor created at this esteemed theater was Yermakov in the play "The Last Reception" by playwright Vladlen Dozortsev. His early roles in this theater were evidence that an artist with a unique performance style had entered the Uzbek theater. When the well-known film director Latif Fayziev began staging the play "Abdulla Qodiriy's Bygone Days" by Izzat Sultan, he did not hesitate to entrust the roles of Qodiriy and Otabek to Muhammadali. To justify this great trust, the actor studied day and night, as creating two major characters in a single stage work required him to use all his strength and skill. Finding the unique character of each role, understanding them, and expressing them in colorful hues was a very complex task. The artist's tireless search bore fruit. The characters of Otabek and Qodiriy became popular with fans. On the theater stage, the actor achieved great success in creating strong-willed, philosophical, tragic, and dramatic characters. He performed roles such as O'zbek ("The Happy Beggars", Gozzi), Emir Umar-Khan ("Dangerous Times", Salohiddin Sirojiddinov), Husayn Boyqaro ("Alisher Navoiy", Uygur and Izzat Sultan), Sultonali ("Scorpion from the Altar", Abdulla Qodiriy), Po'lat ("Yorqinoy", Cho'lpon), The Commander ("Coriolanus", Shakespeare), and Jumanov ("Repression", O'. Hoshimov), relying on the best traditions of the Uzbek national theater, and achieved success.

The character of Cho'lpon created in the play "Nights Without Days" by poet and playwright Usmon Azim was noted as one of the most substantial characters created by the artist in recent years. The actor depicts Cho'lpon's inner world, his dreams, sorrows, and pains with extreme delicacy. Candidate of Art History, Professor Toir Ismoilov writes: "The most successful character in the play is the character of Cho'lpon created by actor Muhammadali Abduqunduzov. The bright image of the passionate poet has been discovered on the theater stage," while Doctor of Art History Muhabbat Tolakhodjaeva acknowledges: "Actor Muhammadali Abduqunduzov, who personified a person with restrained strength, intelligence, and inner culture, managed to fill the character of Cho'lpon with poetic depth and emotional fervor."

The fact that this play won the Grand Prize at the "Andijan Spring" (1999) and "Symbol of Independence" (2001) festivals, and the actor received an award in the "Best Male Character" nomination, confirms that these recognitions were not in vain. The characters the actor created in video films for Uzbek television turned him into a beloved artist in every Uzbek household. In particular, the multi-part video film "Bobur", based on Pirimqul Qodirov's novel "Starry Nights", brought him great fame.

Bobur Mirzo, performed by Muhammadali Abduqunduzov, appears as a heavy, calm, deeply thoughtful person with sharp eyes, whose tone of voice combines melancholy and pride, sorrow and spirit. The images of Alisher Navoiy in Navoiy's "Layli and Majnun", Cho'lpon in Cho'lpon's "Night and Day", and Amir Umar-Khan in Tamilla Qosimova's "Uvaysiy" video film also left a deep mark on the hearts of viewers. The video films "Bobur" and "Night and Day" were also shown on television in Pakistan and Turkey. The lead roles in the artistic-publicistic films "Ten Years Equivalent to Centuries", dedicated to the tenth anniversary of Uzbekistan's independence, and "Dictionary of Justice", created for the Constitution of Uzbekistan, also occupy a special place in the artist's life. The actor voiced films dedicated to our great ancestors, such as "Bahoviddin Naqshband", "Imom Termiziy", and "Al-Farghoniy" at the "Uzbektelefilm" studio with great skill, and worthily demonstrated the achievements of Uzbek national theater art in countries like France and Germany. Alongside his creative work, the talented actor is also successfully carrying out leadership duties.

Muhammadali Abduqunduzov is the Deputy Minister of Cultural Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan (1996), General Director of the "Uzbektheater" Creative-Production Association (1998), and Chairman of the Theater Artists' Union. He actively participated in organizing Independence Day celebrations, "Navruz" national festivals, jubilees of Amir Temur, Jaloliddin Manguberdi, and Cho'lpon, the 2500th anniversary of Khiva, the 1000th anniversary of the creation of the "Alpomish" epic, Uzbekistan Song Festival events, the "Ofarin" Best Artist of the Year competition, "Navruz", "Andijan Spring", and "Khumo" youth theater festivals, and the days of culture of Ukraine, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan in Uzbekistan.

The artist was awarded the honorary titles of "Honored Artist of Uzbekistan" in 1983, "People's Artist of Uzbekistan" in 1997, "People's Artist of Karakalpakstan" in 1999, and the International Bobur Prize in 1997.
